How the free SAT diagnostic works

1

Answer 12 adaptive questions spanning every Digital SAT skill area — they get harder or easier as you go, like the real Digital SAT. About 10 minutes, no signup.

2

See your estimated score (Reading & Writing + Math, out of 1600) and a breakdown of the 8 skills showing exactly where you're losing points.

3

Get a personalised study plan that targets your weakest skills first and maps a week-by-week path to your goal score.

What it covers

The diagnostic samples all eight College Board Digital SAT skill domains: Information & Ideas, Craft & Structure, Expression of Ideas and Standard English Conventions (Reading & Writing), plus Algebra, Advanced Math, Problem-Solving & Data Analysis and Geometry & Trigonometry (Math). You get a separate score estimate for each, so you know precisely where to focus.

Frequently asked questions

Is the SAT diagnostic really free?

Yes. Taking the diagnostic and seeing your estimated score and skill breakdown is completely free, with no account required. You only create a free account if you want to save your personalised plan and start studying.

How long does it take?

About 10 minutes. It's 12 questions, one to two per SAT skill area, so it stays short while still covering the whole test.

How accurate is a 12-question diagnostic?

Because the questions adapt to your answers — harder when you're doing well, easier when you're not — a short test can still place you on the 400–1600 scale. It shows an approximate score band and, more usefully, which skills are costing you the most points. Full timed mock exams inside your study plan then refine the estimate over time.

Is this the digital SAT?

Yes. The questions match the current College Board Digital SAT (2024 onward): two sections, Reading & Writing and Math, each scored 200–800 for a 400–1600 total.

What do I get at the end?

Your estimated SAT score, a breakdown of your eight skill areas with your weakest ones highlighted, and a week-by-week study plan built to close the gap to your target score.

Built by Derstina — personalised exam prep with calibrated question banks, adaptive skill practice and full timed mocks for the SAT and dozens of other exams.
